Cyprus 4 Travel: Health

Your Health in Cyprus

Cyprus is a relatively safe place to visit, in terms of health. The standards of health care are high. Most minor aliments can be treated at chemists. Staff are well trained and it is possible to purchase most medicines here. You will not need any inoculations to visit Cyprus, although it is wise to keep your tetanus injection up to date. Check with your doctor before you leave home for advice.
Citizens of the EU Member States

Under EU regulations, health care can be provided in Cyprus to people from other EU Member States. To receive health care in Cyprus you must be in possession of the appropriate E- Form or EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) from your own Member State.

Non EU Citizens

As a citizen of a country outside the EU you will not be entitled to free health care in Cyprus. Travel Insurance is highly recommended for all visitors to Cyprus. Among the best companies for this, both in terms of cost and cover is World Nomads.

Food and Water

Water is safe to drink in all of the Cities except Famagusta. Although it may have a slightly salty taste in some of the areas reclaimed from the sea. Bottled water is available and very popular. In the Troodos Mountains, people often fill their own bottles from roadside Springs. As with many restaurants, if it is popular and looks clean it is generally safe to eat there. Take care with shellfish and avoid undercooked meat.
